Dear Friends:

While standing in the underground metro stations in Washington D.C. waiting for the trains to come, I noticed that if I reached down the tunnel with my senses I could feel the train coming quite a while before it actually appeared. I could feel it before I could hear it and I could hear it before I could see it.

This is how I sense these full moon meditation opportunities. And the similitude is apt in other ways as well. We are all unavoidably aware of the cacophony of  ignorance, the lack of simple common sense, and the hysterical voices of sophistry that are driving the train of darkness with its cargo of  obfuscation, despair, and  discouragement. However, if we cast our senses along the subtle way we can feel the approaching spirit of service to humanity, which is basically what Leo is all about.

Think of Leo as an opportunity to do a personal check on where our energy is going. Are we  directing our Life Force into the Common Good and the General Welfare or are we dissipating it in discouragement or personal comforts and preening? The old thoughtform, that service is supposed to be painful and if we are having fun we are not serving is obviously, to those who are engaged in service, non-sense.

We can observe those who are selflessly serving and we can see that they are among the most joyful people we know. Likewise we can observe those who “lay waste their powers getting and spending.” They are not that happy.

Their problems are not any more difficult than those of a serving person; however, because these problems interfere with their comforts and cause them to do things they do not want to do, they are anxious, they despair, they are angry. They suffer, a lot.

They lack the strength which flows from self forgetfulness and compassion, and their suffering calls out our love, They do not experience the joy of helping, of thinking with love toward brothers and sisters. We can, we do in our service in our Leo-hood, show them the Way by being the Way.  By standing and serving we can bring them strength and enable them to stand, and by being the Light we can put a Light upon their way.
